Two Rats and the Monkey Story

One day, two rats found a soft piece of bread in a house. They were excited but had a problem—they couldn’t agree on how to divide it equally. Both rats wanted the bigger piece, and neither was willing to compromise. They started arguing and even fought over the bread.Since they couldn’t solve the problem on their own, they decided to ask a monkey for help. The monkey was known as the wisest and cleverest animal in the forest, so the rats thought he would be fair. They asked the monkey to divide the bread equally between them. The monkey agreed and promised to help. But instead of dividing the bread equally, the monkey cut one piece bigger than the other. To fix this, the monkey took a bite from the bigger piece, but then the other piece became larger. So, he took a bite from another one too. The monkey kept doing this—taking small bites from both sides to make them equal. As the monkey ate more and more, the bread kept getting smaller. The two rats soon realized what was happening. They had trusted the monkey, but now they were losing all their bread. The rats asked the monkey to stop and give them whatever was left. But the monkey, being clever and greedy, told them that the rest of the bread was his payment for dividing it.

In the end, the two rats were left with nothing and learned a hard lesson.

If you are too greedy and want more than you need, you might lose everything.

Dividing the Bread: Completing story for SSC

Once there lived two cats in a house. One day, they stole a piece of bread from their neighbour’s house. However, the problem arose from how to divide it, as each of the cats wanted the larger part. When they failed to reach any amicable settlement, they went to a monkey to divide the bread equally.

The monkey brought a pair of scales. He tore the bread into two pieces and put them on the scales. The monkey told the cats that one piece was bigger than the other. So, he bit off a part of the bigger piece. As a result, the other piece became heavier.

Then the monkey took a part of the heavier piece and put it on the scale. The monkey continued doing the same thing again and again until there remained only one piece. Now, the cats told the monkey to return that little piece to them. They said that they themselves would divide the bread equally.

But the monkey said that he had toiled much to divide the bread equally. So, he wanted it as his fee. Saying so, the monkey ate up that piece also. The cats left the place in a very sad mood, but the incident made them wise.
